Chamber Music

GBYO’s Chamber Music program puts students together in small groups of 3-6 players, with each player on their own part. Performing without a conductor, all will have opportunities both to develop their individual artistry and to learn how to support their group peers in order to succeed together. Groups will work on pieces of the 18th-21st centuries in various styles that best match their group’s particular experience level.  

Fall and Spring sessions each run about seven weeks long: six weekly, hourlong coachings leading up to at least one performance. This program is open to all players at the level of GBYO’s Philharmonic or Symphony, whether or not they are currently enrolled in those large ensembles. For string students in a large GBYO ensemble, their chamber groups will meet on Mondays directly before or after their orchestra meets; woodwind and brass groups agree on a mutually convenient weekly time.

No prior experience necessary. Financial assistance available.
