What is an audition?

Auditioning for GBYO is an opportunity to share your music with our conductors. They will review your playing to place you in the ensemble that is the best fit. We hold auditions throughout the year, and there’s no penalty for trying more than once.

Learn more at our Audition Workshop!

In April and August, GBYO hosts an online audition workshop. Join us on Zoom for an introduction to GBYO, meet our Artistic Director, and learn about auditions. RSVP for our next workshop, held August 8, 10am.

GBYO Membership Reqirements

  • School music participation

Members of the large ensembles (Sinfonia, Philharmonic, Symphony, and Wind Ensemble) must participate in their school band or orchestra if they have one. View the school participation form.

  • Lessons

All members of GBYO are required to be actively taking private lessons. We're happy to help you find a teacher!

  • Attendance

All musicians are expected to attend rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and concerts. Practice at home is important, but is not a substitute for group rehearsals. View the yearly calendar.

  • Tuition

Financial assistance is available through our GBYO Financial Assistance Program. We are proud that no student has been turned away from GBYO for financial reasons, stretching all the way back to 1984. That tradition continues. Please don't hesitate to apply. 2026-2027 tuition is $720 for the Sinfonia, $820 Philharmonic, $925 Symphony. A six week Chamber Music session is $385.
